This was sold as AmazonCommercial before it moved under the Amazon Basics name, and the listing says so plainly: six bath towels meant for hotels, spas and vacation rentals. They are 100% ring spun cotton at 600 grams per square meter, 27 by 54 inches, with double stitched, reinforced hems.

At 600 GSM they are light enough to dry in a normal cycle and heavy enough not to feel cheap in the hand. The price is the point. At under $7 a towel, a host can stock three sets per bed, retire a stained towel without a second thought, and buy the same towel again next year.

Note the care label: warm wash, low dryer, and no bleach. That rules out chlorine bleach as a routine fix for greying, so plan on an oxygen bleach soak instead. Skip them for a private guest room where you want something plusher.

The catch. Thin next to a hotel towel, and the maker says not to use bleach.

Hand towels take the worst of it in a rental: makeup, hair dye, the guest who dries the dishes with one. They are the towel you replace most often, so they are the towel to buy cheaply and in bulk. Utopia's are 100% ring spun cotton at 600 GSM, 16 by 28 inches, in a pack of six.

The maker asks you not to wipe off makeup or face creams with them, which in a rental is optimistic. Leave a dark makeup cloth in the bathroom and most guests will use it.

The catch. Budget terry: fine for a rental bathroom, plain for a guest room at home.

Short loops absorb quickly, and channels in the weave let air through, so the towel dries faster on the rail and in the machine. That speed is what makes it a good rental towel in a beach house or a humid climate, where a heavy towel left on a hook can smell musty by the next morning. It is also a good guest room towel for people who find thick terry heavy.

The maker is candid that it feels thinner than expected out of the box and improves after the first wash. Skip it if your guests expect the fat, fluffy hotel towel. At about $30 a towel, it is also a larger bill for a multi-bedroom rental.

The catch. Feels thin out of the box, and the price adds up across many beds.

H by Frette is Frette's hotel line, and the Simple Border is the plain white towel with a woven pique border that its hotel clients use. The Standard Bath Bundle holds two bath towels, two hand towels and a matching bath mat, which is exactly one guest bathroom, done.

It is not the plushest towel you can buy. Single twisted terry is a middle weight, absorbent and reasonably quick to dry, and it softens with washing. What you pay for is the look: the border and the matching mat make a guest bath read like a good hotel.

Skip it for a rental with many beds; at this price, replacing a stained towel hurts. It is for the one guest room at home where you want a visitor to notice.

The catch. Expensive to replace one stained piece, and lighter than a plush spa towel.
