Vacu Vin's pump has been the standard way to save an open bottle for decades. You push a rubber stopper into the neck, set the pump on top and pump until it clicks, which tells you enough air is out. Less air means slower oxidation.

The maker says it keeps wine fresh for up to 10 days. In practice it depends on the wine: robust reds hold up well, delicate whites and old wines less so. The Concerto set comes with four stoppers, so a household that opens a red and a white on the same night can save both.

It is small, cheap and useful, which makes it a good gift paired with something else. Skip it for someone who owns a Coravin, which keeps wine far longer by a different method.

It holds up to 24 Bordeaux-shaped bottles on metal racks, with a space for bottles standing upright, and is set by a digital panel from 41 to 64°F. At about 30.5 inches high and 17 inches wide it fits beside a counter or in a pantry.

It is a single zone, so reds and whites share one temperature. Skip it for someone with a real cellar, or someone who drinks everything within a week of buying it.
